On 10th June, 8 moorers and two dogs enjoyed a morning ramble to Napton and back. Starting at Ventnor Marina, we set off along the towpath to Wigrams Turn and then along the Oxford Canal before cutting across fields to tackle the first hill – although the panoramic view at the top was well worth the climb!
The walkers continued to the historic St Lawrence Church, which dates from the 12th century and overlooks the village. After exploring the beautiful church and its churchyard, the group headed down into Napton village, enjoying coffee and cake in the sunshine at the busy Napton Stores.
It was then back up the hill to resume the walk through farm land where we saw alpacas (or were they llamas?) guarding the sheep! The ramble then rejoined the towpath for a little while before entering a lovely meadow leading to Calcutt Reservoirs, where we observed a variety of birds and also chatted to the fishermen.
It was then a short walk back to the marina to rest our weary feet!
